No Hope for Solo

Soccer goalie and two-time gold medalist Hope Solo got married today, two months after she began dating Seattle Seahawks tight-end Jerramy Stevens.  As if a quickie marriage to a guy who spells his name "Jerramy" isn't concerning enough, Stevens was arrested just yesterday for suspicion of domestic violence of his bride-to-be.

Although I wish eternal happiness for the beautiful soccer star, I fear that she is headed down a dangerous and tumultuous past.  There is no excuse for domestic violence.  I'm a firm believer in the saying, "if he hits you once, he'll do it again" (not sure if that's an old proverb or a phrase made up by my father, but I take it to heart nonetheless).  While the charges were dropped, I doubt that the police would have been involved if "nothing" happened.  In addition, she has only known him for two months so I doubt whatever demons he is harboring have fully surfaced.  If they are getting in domestic violence disputes during their "honeymoon" stage, I can only imagine the ugliness that will manifest once their love goggles wear off.

It's unfortunate because Hope Solo is a role model for many young girls.  Let's start a pool for how long this marriage is going to last.  I'll go on a limb and give them a month.  Any takers?
